Students were invited to work in pair. Each pair read and completed the worksheet. This part did not take much time. After the teacher decided to focus on a role-play activity. Two by two, students were invited to play and represent in front of the class the negative situations they had in their worksheet. In this way, it was easier for the students to understand the meaning of Assertive Communication and it was easier for the teacher to explain the topic and avoid any form of rhetoric.<\/p>\n
The teacher decided to implement this activity since \u201cit helps develop critical thinking and self-reflection. It focuses on the fear of rejection, on the way we cope with disappointing someone, and on the importance of our words, ideas and behaviors. It is useful in school and in life. It promotes teamwork\u201d.<\/p>\n
Students were surprisingly good at playing the negative situations, probably because youngsters are not as over-structured as adults are.<\/p>\n
There were no other hints regarding the implementation of the activity. The teachers stated that she was \u201cStruck and surprised by [students\u2019] naivety, talent and sense of humor\u201d.<\/p>\n
